I am looking at a line item on a hospital bill which comprised a whopping 50% of the entire bill. The line item is "drugs requiring DET coding," which I gather is "detailed coding." Interestingly the drug line itemed under this heading is billed seperately elsewhere for much less money. I am wondering what this "drugs requiring det coding" is and why it's so expensive!
What are "drugs requiring detailed coding"?
Coding is like rearrangment of ingredients to better suit the patient. Thus, extra labor is put in it in the pharmaceutical lab, so more money is charged for the medicine.
