Im interested in studying medical coding and billing, is there anyone out there who can tell me about the job?

Just curious about the payscale, and can i do it from home? what are the pros and cons. thank you.

I have been doing medical billing for over 15 years. From my experience you can't really learn billing from any school. Unless you are going to be a certified coder there is no need to take any billing class. I started as a file clerk at a medical supply co and was offered a billing/collections position. I learned by doing. I made $17 at my last job and depending on where you live you could make more or less. A certified coder can make more money You can do it from home and I am interested in that myself. I have always loved my job and can't really think of any cons.........Things change with insurance companies on a daily basis so billing can be very challenging. I enjoyed it!! Good Luck.
Reply:I have only known 3 people to complete the training for it, and none of them can find a job, even though the schools are supposedly helping them. I don't think they are in as much demand as the schools would have you believe.
